Mondeo 55 2.0 tdci turbo (i think) problem

Featured Replies

Hi guys, not been on in a while, not sure if thats a good thing or bad, hmm

55 plate Mondeo 2.0 Tdci estate

Basically was in 6th doing about 75mph and loads of black smoke started coming out and engine sounded like it was chewing bolts. I pulled over immediately turned ignition off, waited a few minutes, turned key again and it was as sweet as a nut again. However this didn't last 2 minutes, as soon as i put my foot down to pull away the car went straight into limp mode. So i stopped car, got out with engine running and noticed the electronic actuator seemed to be sticking. Just at that moment and as i was about to go back to the cab engine revved its nuts off and died. It's never ran again since, there's ignition, it turns over, there is fuel and compression, just won't fire and most importantly is still full of nice clean nearly new engine oil!!

Is this likely to be a new turbo? Or could it just be the actuator? Egr valve?

Come on guys please before i go shelling out fortunes for a turbo unit i need to know given what i have described above what is the most likely possibility of what went wrong and if it is the turbo, is it just a case of fitting new turbo and then it will run again or is there a whole host of electrical stuff to tell the ecu etc before it will ever run again?
