Minor Fiesta Mk5 Problem... Help!

Featured Replies

Hi, I'm new the to the forum, new to driving and new to owning a Ford so I'm a newbie all round.

I recently bought a MK5 Fiesta which is in good nick and everything seems to work. I have one problem though, the driver door sensor (which tells the car the door is open, turning the interior light on and beeps if the exterior lights are on) only works SOME of the time. For example, after leaving the car for a while I open the door and everything works fine, I'll do a short journey, open the door and it will no longer work. A confusing problem, anyone know what's wrong? Thanks!

The 'button' part of the sensor sits right next to the main door seal, meaning that it rubs along the side of a big bit of rubber - the older it gets, the more likely it is to stick.

Best solution I found was to grease the switch. Try to avoid using WD40 as this actually makes the rubber stickier in the long run.

I had exactly the same problem on my Mk4 (basically the same car) and ended up leaving my lights on over a weekend as a result.

Thanks for the quick response! I have found the button and I'll try that solution! Much appreciated.
