StephenFord
Locked car an hour ago, and noticed that the green radio light and odometer light is still on! Interior light switches off as it should. Have unlocked car, and just closed door, 15 minutes later, both lights still on! What's gone faulty?? F0CUE
Can normally take upto an hour to go off then it assumes your no longer driving after monitoring apparently.
StephenFord
Wow, that's a long time! Maybe I should stop opening/closing door then to try and get it to go off! Only got the car a couple of weeks, and never noticed this before. I'll be patient and see what happens...

You will know in the morning if it stayed on, flat battery!!!🙄
StephenFord
Update - left it for an hour, still on, but another 10 minutes saw the radio light go off, then a few minutes later the odometer followed. So at least I know I won't have battery issues, although to be honest they are only LEDs so they would take weeks to drain a battery. Still, that's an awfully long time, but I'm sure Ford know what they're doing 😎
Botus
this seems to change when you repair the instrument cluster... when first done switched off in 10 mins but a few months later its back to 30 mins

The common cause seems to be when people incorrectly fit a new aftermarket stereo which keeps parts of the cars electronics running causing the battery drain. Glad yours was just down to impatience and not a fault!😉
nazsky786
Causes for the light to remain on are, Failing modules should have stored codes. Keyless systems and aftermarket stereos with the canbus adaptor for steering wheel. It should turn off in 45 mins any longer and you do have an issue. You can get away with it if the battery is stronger or rated higher then the car specifies.

My car is an 'LX', the only luxuries I have are A/C and electric front windows LOL The reason I bought the car is that I've had enough of 'convenience' features that just go wrong, I have a Merc that is plagued by them. My little focus is almost as basic as my first ever 1975 Datsun 120Y which never went faulty once in all the years I owned it (admittedly, it just quietly rusted away!) nazsky786
I would then ask you to check for any stored codes.

Though you did respond to a thread that I started in 2019, about 5 years ago! Welcome to the forum buddy, and I look forward to you starting your own thread, or at least answering a far more recent one! 😀

Is it just your aftermarket radio that stays on, or does the odometer light also remain on, and how long have you waited for it to extinguish?

Have you any idea what the fix is for this please? There is no absolute fix for this problem, but often the problem is caused by the constant live feed to the radio and the ignition switched live to the radio, back feeding. This means when the ignition is off the cars circuits which should be dead, are in fact able to draw power from the radios constant live supply. If you install a diode something like a 1N4004 in series with ignition controlled supply to the radio it will sometimes stop the problem
