TPMS supplier for sensor AND activator

Featured Replies

With quotes of £85 and upwards per wheel to replace damaged sensors I am not a happy chappy.

Has anybody had success in obtaining a preprogrammed replacement sensor AND a compatible activator tool suitable for a 2020 Fiesta Titanium?

I understand the process and how to perform the relearn with the car in learning mode, but can't find a suplier for both items; obtaining them seperately  resulted in sensors not activating or syncing with the vehicle, whilst each supplier "blames" the other's item.

Most suppliers seem to list American or earlier year models. Any success stories or info on the exact spec needed would be appreciated.

(I did not have this problem with a 2014 vehicle when an £8 sensor and £5 Chinese activator completed the job.)

Yes hundreds of people have obtained the TPMS sensors and programming tool, BUT you will still need an independent tyre garage to fit them.

A set of 4 new TPMS sensors and valves can be bought on eBay (there are 4 different types, so make sure to get the correct ones) for under £20  -- possibly part EV6T-1A180-DC

An independent tyre garage will charge between £15 and £20 per wheel to fit them.

Set of 4 £14.89

Now regarding the TPMS. The batteries in all 4 of your 2015 cars wheels will be at the end of there life, so you may as well replace them all and do the job just once.

You programme them once they have been fitted and the wheels are back on the car.

Thanks, Unofix.

The sensor has to be programmed with its own identity before fitting. This needs to be done by the vendor or with a garage quality tool.. It is then paired to the vehicle computer after fitting by applying an activator tool to the wheel whilst the car is set into learning mode.

The link you give to a sensor  is for an ebay item that shows as "not suitable" for my 2020 car when the registration is entered into ebay. Have you actually had successs with that item? If so, which activation tool did you use?

I've no idea where you get that idea from ?

You buy, you fit, you programme with EL50449, as in the photo above. Apart from doing my own 2019 Focus, I've done a few others recently all without a problem.

Perhaps @iantt can offer his advice, he is the man who knows !!

Nothing to add to what you already said. New Ford sensors wake up when the tyre is inflated. Then just at a case of using the cheap tool to learn positions. Done probably 500+  in the last couple of years.

Thanks again.

Are you saying that the sensor does not have to have its own transmitting identity programmed onto it?

Has this changed since the 2015 models? NB the 2015 version has only a tyre pressure warning, whilst the 2020 identifies each tyre individually.

Could you let me know the exact sensor & tool that you have used with success on the 2020 models so I can order them, please.

As already said the programming tool (as actually used by some Ford technicians) is the EL-50449

When the sensors are manufactured they are given a unique ident code, it can't be changed.

My understanding was that SOME sensors are preprogrammed with their unique identity code, but that others have to be programmed. Indeed it was possible to programme them with the code of the previously fitted sensor  (if known) and so avoid any need to pair them to the vehicle computer. This task needs the "expensive" TPMS garage tool,

Many of the ebay adverts do state that the item is preprogrammed.

However to confuse matters further the tool you show with that link refers to EL50449 tool, but in the small print mentions EL50448 for GM cars and does not list 2020 Fiestas as suited to its use and the sensors on link .https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/357881930443?mkcid=1&mkrid=710-53481-19255-0&siteid=3&customid=link&campid=5338910163&toolid=20001&mkevt=1  do not show the 2020 UK Fiesta.

Another twist seems to be that the sensors used do vary across models and even within their build site and batch!!

Do you know any Uk factors who stock my two required items, as I have little faith in mixed ebay sellers.

I think it is fair to say Tony that you are looking for problems that don't exist. The tool I use EL50449 was given to me by a highly qualified and respected Ford technician. It was in use daily at a Ford dealership and programmed hundreds of TPMS .

I've told you which sensor will work with your model but you're more willing to believe the generic look-up chart on eBay rather than take the advice of those who have actually done the job.

The only thing that will completely satisfy you is paying upwards of £85 per wheel at a Ford dealers. Who ironically will fit the same £4.50 sensor and programme the car with the same £6.99 tool.

This is a classic case of "you can lead a horse to water, but you can't make it drink"

Go and pay the dealer £340 if that's what it takes. I'm out of here now !
