Changing My Mk7 Petrol For A Mk7 Diesel

Featured Replies

Can any one tell me if it would be worth changing my mk7 petrol 58 plate for a new mk7 Diesel? PRO's And Con's etc

Ive done nearly 20k since December 2008 and done nearly 6 k in the since December 2009 as Im communting more lately for work.

So I was thinking it would be cheaper to run a diesel car.

thanks

All I can add is I struggle to get less than 42 mpg even battering down the a roads about 100! Go easy with the right foot and you're looking at the mid sixties, (once your engine has done about 6k and bedded in). Oh, and 35 quid road tax a year!

 :o B) :D

With 20K a year mileage it may be worth it that's the lower limit for diesel mileage. However take into acoount how much you will get for your existing car (or rather how much you lose) and also factor in the additional cost of a diesel engine over a petrol (what is the cost to change?) and also the potential for dearer servicing costs. When I got my Petrol Titanium back in October last year I did the maths and came to the conlusion that based on around 12,000 miles a year it would take over 6 years before I would be saving any money in real terms so definately not worth it for me I have never owned a car much more than 5 years.

I think the gearbox will be the MTX one, much less baulky than the IB5 in the petrol Fiestas, and the engine is not cast-iron, so not nose-heavy like larger Ford diesels. The cam-drive is by belt, and has had its renewal interval revised down. The engine powers a large range of Volvos, and is well up to the job. Larger Ford diesel engines have been criticised as having a poorer version of EGR valve than the equivalent Peugeot version, as Ford use some plastic part inside, which is metal in the Peugeot, and gives a lot less trouble. Our Ford dealership use a good fuel additive at every service ;-- "FORTE" diesel fuel treatment, at £8.50p + VaT, to treat up to 100 litres of diesel. (trade-only availability.)

I have used it for 8 years, with very rapid and noticable effect, and am now using the petrol version in my '58 reg Fiesta Zetec Climate 1.25. There is even a version for early pre-Mk 6 zetec engines, to address the sticky valve problems.

What!!!!Awesome lol

DIESEL FTW!

If it helps…

I’m getting 52+ mph from my 1.4 diesel , I find the engine torque is good and compared to my wife’s 1.4 petrol car (not a fiesta) pulls very well when you need to overtake.

You do really need to do more than 15.000 miles per year before considering a diesel and ask yourself, if you have never has a diesel, can you live with the ‘tractor’ noise, as some petrol heads find it difficult (gawd knows why)

On the up side diesels can be easier to tune too :) B)
