Cant rev over 3k

Featured Replies

Hey all looking for some advice bought my ford focus from arnold clark 5 mths ago last month while driving along motorway the power dipped and engine management light came on it felt like she had lost her power i managed to get home  once i had stopped turned engine off and restarted the light was off but it still felt a little sluggish and if i tried to rev it was not exceeding 3k so i phone arnold clark who booked it in for diagnostics test came back nothing wrong anyhow today same thing happened so i get home turn engine off wait few mins start ehr back up wont rev above 3k again light is also off again anyone have any idea what could be causing this

What engine?

on my previous fiesta (diesel) when the engine light came on it would not rev above3000 rpm. This was in limp home mode to protect the engine. But if I got the light to turn off the rev limit had gone and it was fine.

So when you rev in neutral (not driving) does it go stright up to 3000rpm and stop at that point like there is something electronic limiting it, or does it struggle up to 3000rpm and run rough or cough splutter or anything like that.

also- you need a OBD code reader to see what fault codes are showing up. The fault codes remain in the system to be read even if light has gone off

The dreaded 1.6tdci 16v.... Get it on a code reader.

Is it normal for my ford focus 1.5 tdi to only rev half way on dial

If standing still and in neutral then the engine RPM is limited to protect both the engine and the gearbox.

How many rpm is halfway? I think the mot test for diesel requires them to rev the ***** off it whilst standing still.

Red Lines at 5000rpm.

Rev limiter holds it at about 2750rpm until driving.
