Anyone know a way to find the original numberplate of a car that now has a private plate?

Trying to check a cars options on ETIS but the private plate won't work, it's for sale at a dealer so they're unlikely to know the previous plate either.

That's weird.  My mates Fiesta doesn't show up on a private plate either.  Did you have yours registered with that plate from new?  Only thing I can think is that maybe it doesn't work if the plate was changed after sale.

The ad doesn't say 'private plate not included' and its been up for a while so I doubt its being changed.

My last Focus was a private purchase. It came, at my request, with a bunch of old receipt and sundry paperwork.

After a while I had a look through and found an old dealer service document with a previous owners private plate listed.

I did not really need this detail, it only satisfied my curiosity.

If anyone steals my number plate I will be down to a local private plate company for a new random number  just after reporting the theft to the police.

Just search with the vin number on Etis, it will show you the previous registration number, there are a few apps like vehicle uk that will give you the vin number.for a registration number supplied

This is what I'm after but I can't find any that do it now, not for free at least.  I think its due to the recent data protection GDRP thing?

If the cars outside can you not see the vin plate at the bottom of the windsreen, 

My plate was added after i bought the car cos the dealer cocked it all up.

I only learnt today that you can get the VIN off the Sync screen lol. Just go into ‘options’ then ‘about sync’ and it will be on the screen for you to take a photo of. Handy if you can’t ask the dealer and don’t need want to be seen searching for the VIN.

Not uncommon these days, pinch a set of plates or have a friend in the trade make up a set to the number you want and away you go.

It's not true I have a persecution complex, they really are out to get me!

Why, last night the next door neighbour's Fiesta was stolen off his drive, no hassle, and all he is left with is 2 sets of keys.

It could easily have been my car they took, not his.

I'll be better in the morning.

Of course I have, I had my own Focus cloned several years ago. I live up in the Highands and somehow my car was photographed stealing petrol from a filling station in Oxford, so I am more than familiar with cloning 😕

It was my private plate that got cloned in the first place, and I still own it now. No way I was giving it up, only reason I got to keep it was because they caught the woman who was driving the cloned car and she admitted to obtaining the plate illegally.

I'm not paranoid enough to think it was me they were out to get, I just happened to have the thing they wanted.
