Mk5 Struggles To Get In 1St Gear

Been driving around my MK5 Fiesta for a few days now and I've noticed that sometimes (no real pattern) I have to push it hard into 1st gear. It doesn't go in smoothly like the other gears. Is this normal? It also happens to 2nd gear, although to a lesser extent. Sometimes it's fine however, so I don't really understand.

Also, this may just be my crappy driving, but I can hear a quiet 'clunk' everytime I lift the clutch pedal. It's not loud but I can definitely hear it. Have I anything to be worried about?

This is the only car I've driven except the car I learned in so I have nothing really to compare it to.
