Duratec HE 1.8 lack of power drinking oil

Featured Replies

Good evening,

I assume this will be a common issue from the research I've done, but hopefully I've overlooked something.

I've got a '07 mk2 focus with the 1.8 Duratec HE petrol.

We've only had it 4 months and it never seemed to have a great deal of power. Had the usual bonnet catch issues, still does!!! Has been drinking oil, I bought 5 litres a couple of months ago and it's nearly gone. I only do less than 100 miles a week. It is fully synthetic.

I stripped the air intake manifold, swirl flaps, oil/ air separator, PCV, EGR, all heavily coated in long term oil deposits. All appeared to be in good working order though, EGR was free and relatively clean. Although I've not got the equipment to test them. Spark plugs heavily deposited and insulation on one broken.

So, I ran some BG 109 EPR flush, followed that with some Comma flushing oil I had to hand. I followed the method to the letter. Then fitted a new oil filter, 5w30 ford oil, air filter and spark plugs.

Assuming its going to be valve seats or piston rings. 😞
