Ford Focus Mk2 1.4 Petrol (2007) – Odometer Display Stays On

Featured Replies

Hi everyone,

I have a Ford Focus Mk2 Hatchback (DA_, HCP, DP) 1.4 Petrol 80hp (2007) and I'm experiencing a strange electrical issue that is draining the battery.

Symptoms:

  • The green LCD display showing the odometer/mileage (and temperature) sometimes stays illuminated after the car is switched off.

  • The radio shuts down normally and the clock display goes off.

  • It is only the odometer LCD that remains lit, not the entire instrument cluster.

  • If the car is left unused for a few days, the battery can become completely discharged.

  • The issue is intermittent. Sometimes the display turns off normally, other times it stays on indefinitely.

  • On one occasion, I inserted the key again, turned the ignition on and off, removed the key, and the display then switched off correctly.

  • The problem reappeared after I disconnected and reconnected the battery while working on the tailgate.

  • The ignition barrel was replaced a few months ago.

  • The car has a keyless entry/start system installed.

I've found a few older forum posts describing similar symptoms (odometer backlight staying on and battery drain), but I haven't found a clear solution.

Has anyone experienced this issue on a Mk2 Focus?

Any advice or similar experiences would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.
