Apologies if posting incorrectly but wondering if I could get some help and advice.

Have 2013 Diesel Focus and tonight, put key in to start and nothing...No dash lights at all but head lights, wipers, indicators, hazards, fan etc did work.

Had mechanic out but dark and difficult to see so towed home. Another strange thing once home, if put key in ignition and turn to position 1, all exterior lights come on.

Before I take this to Ford Dealership for expensive repair, does anyone have a clue? Could it be as simple as a loose connection / cross wire somewhere or am I hoping for a cheaper miracle here. Had it three years and never been any sort of problem or issue with it.
