broken pipe in engine

afternoon all

anyone know what the pipe does below? I have been driving the car and I noticed a smell of burning oil whilst driving, on inspection this pipe seem to be spraying oil on my engine when the car is running

any ideas?

Could be the crankcase breather hose.
Where does the pipe lead to?
If it's a petrol car and the pipe goes into the underside of the air filter housing then that's what it would be.
