Parking Sensors Not Working On Fiesta Mk8 (2009)

Featured Replies

Hi,

I just bought a Fiesta Zetec S 2009 from Ford direct that is supposed to have the City Pack, it has the power fold mirrors and the rear bumper seems to have the sensors fitted. The power fold mirrors work fine but the reverse parking sensors do not. Is there some way to enable it? I checked the fusebox and the one that appears to be for the parking sensor is empty (not metal contacts in there). Is it possible the car has just got the power fold mirrors and the bumper has been replaced with one that has got the sensors in because it has been in an accident? (that is my biggest fear!)

Why don't you take it back or ring Fords Direct where you bought it from and ask them because only they will be able to sort it for you.

I seriously doubt anyone would fit a new bumper with sensors already fitted if the car had been in a collision.

There is a possibility of the previous owner removing the fuse for some reason, maybe the beeps got on their nerves.

If there is a way of turning them on and off, it really should be in the manual, have you read it?

I have taken it back and they have booked it in to look at it on next Monday, but I thought I would post on here just in case there was anything easy I could do to fix it (i.e. there is a way to turn it on) or to see if anyone knew whether you could get the power fold mirrors without the parking sensor so my theory about the replacement bumper is feasible (I'm probably just being paranoid!). I thought it might have been the removing the fuse scenario but as I said there doesn't even appear to be metal contacts where the fuse should be (so a fuse will not fit in there). I just want to make sure that the car has not previously been in an accident because I can return it within 30 days and exchange it for another one.

the rear sensors are usually powered from the reverse lights its could be the inline fuse to the controlle box thats gone. i take it the reverse lights come on when you select reverse.

Hi thanks for the response, yes the rear lights do come on when reversing, any idea where the inline fuse is so that I can check it?

ford use x vision systems and they usually hide the controlle box behind one of the boot side panels, see if you can see any of the wires that you could follow back to the box.

Stop!

You have a brand new car, dont go tearing into things that you dont have 100% confidence in

You have 30 days on the Ford Direct system to return it

So leave it untill monday, & let them check it out

Other.... a new car for you buddy

Sorry to be very off topic here, just for the future which may help in any parts you need etc trfletch, the new fiesta is a Mk7.

Thanks for the responses, don't worry I'm not going to start ripping the car apart just wondered if it was going to be a simple fix rather than having to be without my car for a day while they look at it. And yes I now realise it is a MK 7 as opposed to MK 8! Wondered why my searchs were not bringing up many results! Another quite question, when I lift up the boot floor panel to reveal the spare wheel, on the right hand side of the boot floor area there is a bit area of grey adhesive type material, almost looks like fibreglass, what is that all about? Is that normal?
