Ford focus handbrake

Featured Replies

My car was parked on a hill with handbrake on for about 15 minutes before it started to roll slowly backwards, has anybody had anything likw this happen to them?

Its a focus st estate 13 plate

I never trust just the handbrake on hills, always leave mine in gear as well.

If you were braking quite a lot/quite harsh before you parked (and not giving enough time for the dics to cool down gradually), then it's possible they contracted and moved away from the pads slightly causing the discs to slip.

Handbrakes are pretty crap nowadays (especially on discs). Unless I'm on a flat surface, I always leave my car in gear.

My Cmax wont hold on a hill, according to Ford it ok

I remember hearing a car alarm outside my mum and dad's house years back, I looked out of the window and it was my car in the middle of the road! The handbrake hadn't held and it had rolled down the steep drive, through the gates and stopped on the road. I can't believe it didn't hit anything on the way out. I always leave my car in gear after that.
