Are Ford's always so expensive?

Featured Replies

First post, so Hello!

Just wondered if Ford's are always so expensive as I feel like I'm being mugged off. I went to my local Ford garage recently and got a quote for 2 power steering hoses. These things are both less than 1m long, one was £180 and the other was £105, the power steering fluid was £46. It's dirt cheap for them to make so why is it ridiculously expensive?. Plus the seat levers on these model are like butter and break easily at £34 a pop.

Are all other brand the same as this?. Because whats the point in buying a Ford if they're just as expensive on parts and repairs as any other car?. I bought it expecting it to be more reasonable to run.

My car: 07 Ford Fiesta ST150

Ford are no different to any other car manufacturer, they all rip off the customers. A simple thing like a relay unit costs around £45 when the equivalent relay at Maplins costs £6, I could go on at length ,it makes me sick.

Parts for most normal cars cost about the same on average, I never understand why people think Ford/Peugeot/Vauxhall cost less to fix than German cars...it hasn't been my experience at all.

Local Ford dealers are often franchises though, so they have overheads to pay, and can add their own mark up on top.  It's cheaper to buy genuine parts online through Ford stores on ebay usually.  There's also no need to buy genuine PAS fluid for an ST150, cheap stuff from Halfords or ECP is fine for those.

As others have said no different to other manufacturers, as to the power steering pipe you can get them made up cheap enough by Pirtek or similar
