focus hatchback mk3 dtc p161b after abs module replacement

Featured Replies

Hello forum and everyone, sorry my english is not good. My focus had throw me dtc 161b( incorrect response from secondary immobilizer ) at pcm module after abs module (used one) replacement. i had tried upload asbuilt data for abs module but its still throw dtc p161b on pcm and the engine couldn't start (it's show immobilizer malfunction on ipc). original abs module p/n is BV61 C405 AJ and the replacement is BV61 C405 AK. Could it be the replacement isn't compatible with the old one? i had reset pcm module, reset abs module with forscan but dtc p161b is still occured.

it is ok abs module asbuilt data look like this (old and replacement module had same asbuilt ) :

760-01-01 [0000] [0000] [0069]

760-01-02 [0000] [0000] [006A]

760-01-03 [0000] [0000] [006B]

760-01-04 [0000] [0000] [6C]

can anyone tell me what could be the problem here? any help would be appreciated.

The problem is that after replacing the ABS module of a Focus MK3/MK3.5 the PATS immobilizer system needs to be reprogrammed.

Thank you for the response JW1982. Reprogrammed PATS can it be done with forscan or do i need other software?

PATS programming on the Focus MK3/MK3.5 requires a suitible diagnostic system that has the ability to program the latest generations of the Ford PATS system and a valid (paid) Ford FDRS subscription.

This basically means that you either need to find a Ford dealer or a specialist who has a suitible diagnostic system and a valid (paid) Ford FDRS subscription.

Actually the one and only ford dealer at my city had gived up try to fix my focus, that's why i try myself to fix this. Maybe because they had no experience to fix this problem as ford population especially focus is so low in my country. At my city i think focus doesn't exceed 5 unit.

Hi good day i am having the same problem that you have Bro.

I was called by a mechanic that replaced the ABS module and i tried to reprogram the replacement module by PMI.

everything said complete but keep getting the BCM DTC B10DA also ABS DTC U2300 and PCM DTC P161B.

These are hard codes and i also reprogramed a new key but keep getting the same DTC's and the engine don"t crank.

Any Idea that could help please send to [email protected]

Sorry i'm not login for a long time. My abs problem had solved 2 year ago. I just swap the eeprom between the 2 abs module i had. No reprogramming needed.

My vechile was a No Crank no start for months with many fault codes after 3wks parked in the garage. Diagnosed ABS module failure. Started with wheel sensor failures previously then ABS module did fail. After installing a used module  I calibrated and bleed the brakes with Forscan. ALL fault codes cleared. Even the Steering Column lock unlocked. 2014 kuga then through a Secondary Immobilizer fault code and still a No Crank situation. Ford Tech had to do a PATS parameter  reset and coded the used ABS to my BCM and volla vechile worked like new. Forscan cannot do this because PATS is a coded system. The Euro MK2 and US MK3 use the ABS and BCM as part of the immobilizer Security system. Has nothing to do with keyless entry, alarm or key fob. If one experiences regular wheel speed sensor faults change your car battery first because a very low battery may eventually pull down the ABS module and leave you scratchin for months.
