I know MPG varies because of different things, but I'm wondering what do MK4/5 owners get here on average? Just I have no idea if my car is drinking too much??

    I don't get all this MPG gubbins but i get around 300/320 to £40 of petrol

    My old MK4 1.25 Chicane used to manage just about 50 mpg when sat at an average of 50 mph. Otherwise 40 mpg was the norm for mixed speeds (mine were usually above 40 mph). Around town, 35 mpg.

    I have an old 1.4 ghia x mk4 and the most i have got is almost 400 miles out of a full tank, my mpg dropped a little while ago and it turned out i had a sticking brake caliper which dropped my mpg to under 300 miles per tank.

    Easy way to check is see if your brake disk is hot after a drive (spray some water on it, don't touch it like i did as it burnt mt !Removed! fingers)

    Hi, had to say I was quite surprised when I found my old girl was doing about 52miles per gallon ('97 1.3).I do rather long trips, not just running about locally.
