Hi all,

Vehicle is a '59 plate (Feb 2010) Focus mk 2.5 5 door hatchback

Yesterday when I got home I pressed the tailgate release button on the key fob and...nothing. Same thing with the other buttons.  Bit of a pain as my tailgate switch packed up ages ago. Anyway, I put the key in the ignition and turned it to positions I and II and at some point the tailgate button worked.  Take key out of ignition and...nothing again.  Thinking it might be the battery in the fob I went and got my spare key...same problem.  Just to (hopefully) eliminate the possibility of both batteries being duff I went to local supermarket and bought some new ones.  Here's the thing: when I was at the supermarket both fobs worked fine!

Got back home and, guess what? Nothing.  Replaced the batteries and went through the procedure of turning from O to II 4 tiomes in 6s then pressing a button on the fob.  Tailgate unlocked!  Took key out of ignition and nothing again.  Same with spare key

I'm suspecting it could be something local like radio interference. I'll go out later and see if both keys work at a different location.  I've had the car 5 years now and haven't had a problem with the remote until yesterday.

One thing this has highlighted is what a pain it is not having a working tailgate release switch, so I'm trying to source one from t'internet but don't want to end up getting the wrong part, so could someone let me know what the correct part (FINIS?) number is?  There seem to be a number available on fleabay that all look as though they're the right part but have different numbers

Do you have any usb chargers plugged in?
They can badly interfere with key signals.
