Wifes fiesta reving hi but when on full lock the revs normal

Hi people 

Wifes car was reving very low and stalling so I disconnected the battery for 5mins, then let it run up from cold to temp.

Seemed ok for a week then started reving high.

Reset again a couple of times but always running fast now 1700-2000 revs 

Read somewhere that they have a sensor on the stearing so I tried move the wheel about and on full lock the revs seem to drop to normal, full lock either way.

I'm not sure what to do next lol
