I have recently purchased a 2009 diesel 1600 hatchback. My problem is I have a dashboard message telling me l have a engine malfunction. I have spoken to the RAC who said that they do not include this as a breakdown. How can I remove this message from my dashboard

You need to get a code reader on it and find what the fault is, fix it, then clear the DTC.

If you just clear it and there is a fault triggering it, it will just keep coming back.

Also worth noting it'll need to be a Ford specific code reader like Forscan.  If the engine light isn't on you're unlikely to have any generic OBD codes.

On a 1.6 TDCi, chances are it's glow plug, EGR or DPF related for that warning so worth fixing before it causes further problems.
