I seem to have a digit missing on my vin plate for the chassis no it's the second letter.i have no reg or v5 .any way to find the missing letter. Cheers mike

Isn't the chassis number actually stamped on the car body somewhere? or was it in a place where now obscured by welding repairs. 

as far as I can tell from looking at internet, 2nd letter says which factory it was made in and will be A B C or D   . A = dagenham (or cologne if LHD), b= hailwood, c = langley, D = southampton

If you haven't got it sorted, I can have a look in the manual, but i think that's right although I'm not sure that Cologne was also 'A', not after FOE was launched anyway.

 

Chassis number starts with Country of origin, plant, model line, body style, year, month.

 

the introduction of standardised vehicle ID numbers has done away with the month of manufacture.
