Limp mode no codes

Featured Replies

Hey guys.

so I have a 1.0 eco boost Ford Fiesta- keeps chucking into limp mode (engine service now) on the dash. No codes are reading so no idea where to start.
had a new engine shell from ford 3k ago. Took all my parts of the one that died and put it on here- old one had cracked block.

Unplugged coils one by one yesterday and died on every one.
had a good run up the motorway today and no problems. Come out tonight and it’s done it again? Turn the car off and on and it goes.
been noticing it’s doing it when the floors wet? May just be a coincidence.

any help please? Thanks guys x

I suspect you need a Ford specific system like Forscan. A great many DTCs are manufacturer specific, and can also occur in modules other than the ECU. There are a lot of "intelligent" (microprocessor) modules on a modern car. Many generic readers only see generic codes, and most only read the ECU.

It sounds like an intermittent electrical contact, but without diagnostic codes it is like hunting for a needle in a haystack in the dark while wearing thick gloves. Hopeless!

The best system is Ford IDS (£100 per go at a dealer, usually),  but almost as good is this:

And it needs something like this:
