Instrument Panel LCD not displaying correctly

Featured Replies

Hi Everyone,

Just purchased an 18 plate St-line and i am having problems with the instrument LCD screen. It seems to only want to display the current miles driven in the top left of the screen. If i try to scroll through the menu using the steering wheel controls no matter if i try going up or down the screen only displays the words Trip Computer 1 in the top left but no other information is displayed. However on exiting the vehicle the screen correctly displays the Alarm settings screen i.e Full or Reduced. So i know the Screen is working and receiving power and information.

Is there a way to reset this? Any ideas? Cannot get my car seen until January and would love to be able to fix this myself as it is really annoying.

Thanks for your help.

My 67 plate developed exactly the same fault.

It was suggested I pull the battery for an hour to reset it, and it worked, unfortunately this generated a steering lock error.

Called the AA out and he performed a Body Control Unit reset (basically pulled the connectors out of the BCU unit under the bonnet, plugged them back in and all was well).

I'm not sure but the BCU disconnection may well have cleared the fault on it's own and not generated the other error.

More details on the thread above.

Also, if you have breakdown cover you could call them out if you're not happy doing it yourself.  The AA guy said he sees it  regularly on the new fords.

Thanks for the reply, Its goof to know im not the only one with this problem.

Can i ask was it the battery disconnect that fixed the issue or was it the BCU unit that fixed the problem. If its as easy as disconnecting the battery then i might just try that myself over the holidays. Car is booked in to local ford garage on the 6th Jan but really don't want to wait that long.

Thanks

Hi Matthew,

The battery disconnect for an hour fixed the instrument cluster LCD, but that then generated a steering lock malfunction error.  I then called the AA out and he immediately disconnected / reconnected the BCU (Body Control Unit - see original thread).  After that all was OK.  I asked could I do that if it happened again, he said yes and repeated the procedure to show me how.

So you could try the battery disconnect, but just be prepared that it may cause the secondary error that I had.  Like I say it's very easy to just disconnect the BDU cable and reconnect.

The problem hasn't re-occured but if it did I would try the BCU pull first to see if that fixed the error rather than pulling the battery first (but that's just me).
