Mk6 boot pop annoyance.

Featured Replies

Hi all, I found a handy guide about stripping and cleaning the brushes and commutator inside the motor thats in the boot open actuator, which now works a lot better, there's almost double the travel there used to be when the button is pressed, although it still won't open the boot, the mechanism itself has enough travel to operate the latch, because you can manually close it with your hand while the boots up and it pops the catch fine, it just won't do it with the boot closed, I can't really work it out.

The boot itself closes fine and there's no stiffness or catching on the keep or anything, so I can't understand why it won't work, I only have the one key so having to stop the car and take the key out every time is a little irritating.

if I can't solve it I'll get a cheap key cut that's got no chip or anything solely to open the boot lock that the other half can keep on her keys, with the time of year there's been a lot of picking her up in the wind and rain from places involving shopping, why ford didn't just have a push lock like the old MK4 escorts etc I'll never know.

Ant ideas guys?

Thanks in advance 🙂

Any ideas guys

Silly Question, but is this with the engine running, or is there any difference between engine running or engine stopped ?

On a Puma I had, boot release was the first indication that there was a battery problem - because the cable to the back of the car is so thin, you get an appreciable voltage loss so the solenoid would not work, but you could still start the car !!

Thanks paulkp, this has all been done with the engine off, I'll try that this morning, and if it does work with the engine on I do incidentally have a brand new battery on the other car (Volvo estate) that's destined for scrap once i get some parts off it for the other Volvo estate, if I can shoehorn an 096 battery into the little fiesta then that's what I'll do.

Dan,

As an aside, we have a 1.6 petrol '57 plate Fiesta Zetec S, and a 1.6 petrol '60 plate Fusion.  You might think that they would have the same size battery, but the Fusion has a 500Amp/90RC and the Fiesta a 300Amp/55RC.  Battery boxes are different sizes, and am considering a scrappie visit to find the bigger one and install in the Fiesta so I can fit a 500 battery, especially as I have fitted heated front seats in the Fiesta.
