Oil overfil

Featured Replies

My car is a 2 year old Fiesta with a 1 litre ecoboost engine. At its last service a few months ago by the local main Ford dealership the engine sump was overfilled with oil to about 1/4" above the full mark. Is this likely to have caused any damage to the engine? There are no symptoms at all.

Also since the car still 3 months inside the warranty expiry date should I report the oil overfill to the garage in case any future problems arise.

I would get them to remove it till its right level 🙂

How did a dealer over fill , def take back its not hard to put correct amount in unless there gun ho trigger type oil.....

Plenty of threads on this on here.  The 1.0EB is impossible to fill accurately as it takes so long to drain back to the sump.  Ford specify that 4mm above max on the dipstick is perfectly acceptable on this engine.  I have no idea what that is in inches...

4mm is about 1/4 inch - mine was bought new and it was overfilled

Minä has always been slightly overfilled after maintenance. Last time I checked I noticed that it also depends on which side of the dipstick you check the level 😄

1/4 inch would be 6.36mm, that is 1 inch = 25.4mm divided by 4.

Precisely ! 😀😀

I hope he measured the over fill precisely too.
