Replacement tyres ?

Featured Replies

Just for starters I'd like you all to know that my missus only works part time & I don't work due to a back injury, so we ain't loaded with money.

Noticed the rear tyres are cracking badly so time to get them changed.

All four tyres are budget and they are called Roadshines, cheap shiit I know but it's what we can only afford nowadays, but last week whilst out in the rain and going around a corner the front end didn't grip at all and started to slip towards the kerb, upnerved us a bit as we weren't going that fast, so want to step away from budget Roadshine tyres.

Fiesta covers less than 3000 miles a year.

What's your opinions on Budget & Mid range tyres ? Bare in mind my first bit that we ain't loaded with money.

Can get four of these fitted for £200 all in, anyone used Nankang tyres ? Tread looks like it can do the job.

Not very precise answer to your question.

I always have a look at tyreshopper,  black circles  and  asda tryres  . Whether they are much use to you depends on if they have a fitting centre near you (tyrshopper use Setyres about 1/4 mile from where I work so very handy).   Unless they have changed recently , all three of these include valve / balance / disposal of old tyre in the prices shown.

Even if you don't use them it's handy for price comparison.

Those Nankang tyres look like they will have a rotation arrow on them from the look of the tread pattern. Personally I am not keen on those as it limits moving the tyres round the car if one side is wearing down the edge.  I prefer the ones which can rotate either way. Unfortunately tyreshopper etc don't seem to specify that detail but you can often get an idea from the tread pattern.

If you do low mileage then cracking before worn out may be a problem. I don't really know if that is linked to price of tyre. My wife's Mazda 2 had Toyo tyres on it, which are not really cheap but they cracked sooner than I thought they would. I can't remember how old they were but I did check the date of manufacture on the side wall (all tyres have the week number and year moulded into one side wall)

Thanks for replying, I'll check those websites out.

I never knew tyres had a date of manufacture on them! Supposed you've got to be careful a tyre garage doesn't bang on new but old tyres.

On the sidewall it will have 4 numbers eg. 5019 means made in week 50 of 2019 which is in dec 2019. I have only seen it on one side of the tyre, so if on car you might have to look at the other side

Having 2 tyres replaced tomorrow. Avon ZV7  at £60 each fitted. have used these before , excellent grip in wet and dry.

A second vote for Avons. Best value all round tyres you can get.

I use them on my cars and motorbikes and have done for years. Much better than terrible Dunlops in every way, and often cheaper. Always go to Tyreshopper though first to get them supplied and fitted cheaply.

The Nangkang NS2s aren't bad, I had a set on a Mk6 ST.  That's an excellent price if you can get them fitted cheap enough...fitting is a huge pain nowadays.  I used to get tyres fitted, balanced and disposed for a fiver cash each...struggled to get them done for a tenner recently (by recently, I mean Nov 2018, how time flies lol), and even then they wouldn't dispose within that price so I've had the old one stored ever since.

If you have an F1 Autocentres near you, the Avon ZV7s are £220 fully fitted with a discount code and it saves a lot of hassle.  I'd also vote for them as a decent budget tyre...but don't agree that they're better than Dunlop SBR's lol.

I personally would have Avons over Nankang tyres and the £20 extra from Toms post will easily be covered by the saving in fuel going to Warwick to get them fitted.  Also if you have a balancing issue, it is better having them fitted close to home.

Son walks into our house this evening holding a brand spanking new 195/45/16 Yokohama S Drive tyre, got it for now't and he said this'll save you some cash.

Goes on the search for this S Drive tyre and it looks like they are no longer made and no one stocks them....Typical!!

Annoying (and you are in Nottinghamshire & I am in Kent), you have one size of tyre I haven't got a garage full of. As I fit all season tyres to my cars, I have 4 195/55/15 tyres that have done 3000 miles and will be getting 195/55/16 tyres that are being taken off the new car before collection.
