2004 blower heater noise

Featured Replies

Hi guys, my 2004 Ford Fiesta has developed a really loud noise when the heater/blower is on. Have removed the heater blower from the car using this link on YouTube. https://youtu.be/w7aBXqz-fKE

when I reattach the blower it spins well and doesn’t make a noise but as soon as I put it back in position and turn on it starts making the noise again. I don’t think it’s an issue with the blower so the noise must be coming from somewhere else. Any ideas would be appreciated as want to get it fixed before it gets really cold.

Any of the actuators if fitted ?.If you tested with power in the correct orientation but when fitted theres a noise again i suggest another form of actuator trying to open/close.

Hi Gaz,

Not too sure what you mean. Can confirm that when I plug the fan in and hold it safely it spins without making any noise. When I put it back into its position and turn on the noise reoccurs. It is quite a loud groaning noise.

Is there another area of the car I should be investigating?

Any chance of a short video ?

so when it is plugged in but not installed are you holding it at exactly the same angle as it would be in the car? electric motors often have a small amount of end play on the shaft and the angle of mounting can affect that and hence any noise.  In my experience, when electric motors make the kind of noise I think you are describing it is because the bearings at each end of shaft need lubricating. But you must be careful not to get any oil/grease on the commutator (the metal segments that the carbon brushes connect to)  or carbon brushes

Thanks for confirming Gaz,

Unfortunately that one is over 200 miles away and collection only. Plus looks like they've cut the wires rather than unplugging.

Will keep an eye out for alternatives to replace though, they seem few and far between

I have taken it to the engineer at my work. He has cleaned it out and greased it. Has said there is a lot of play in it and its a goner.

Put back in the car and the noise hasn't improved. Will have to keep a close eye out on ebay

Nice one good news bud.

As soon as I heard that I thought it was bearing trouble.
