Today I bought Fiesta as my first car. So naturally first thing when I got home is to register in owners forum.

I bought MK6 2004 1,4 ZTEC Limited edition, the one with leather seats. MOT till march, had new clutch just fitted and it has 103,000 miles done. I will take and post some pictures when its daylight.

I bought it for 450 pounds, the car has some little dents and scratches, but I think it's a bargain price, wanted to ask the experts if I made a good purchase. Last MOT attached.

I plant to repair everything I can on my own, as I do love it and have some knowledge. Plant to fit the MK 6.5 headlights and taillights and other bits and bobs.

Any advise on going forward appreciated.

Thanks, Kris.

Whether or not it’s a good buy all depends  on what happens at mot time. It’s quite a short mot. Hope it goes well for you. Wouldn’t bother trying to make it look like a mk6.5 , bit of a waste of time really

I had that model as my first Fiesta and I loved it.   Eventually passed it on to my son.   I really agree with Isetta; it isn't worth doing any updates on the car.

Why would you both say that? Why is it not worth doing any upgrades ? I think the mk 6.5 headlights might make the car look a lot modern and younger and might increase it's value.

I am not planing to spend on it any more than I would expect to get back with a small profit.

Plus I really love fixing cars, I think I would be bored of a car that has noting to fix.

I think the idea of fixing the car up yourself isn’t a bad one especially if it’s something you like doing.

Personally, I don’t think modifications on a £450 car would increase its value significantly or even at all, it’d probably make the car look a little bit more modern but in my eyes at that price point, it’s the mechanical and bodywork condition that will dictate the price and not visual mods

£450 for a car is a good buy regardless of condition. I have never paid over £2000 for a car and never lost any money on one.

If your car were to be an MOT failure in the future and it costs you too much to put right, take it off the road and strip it for parts! You will always make your original purchase money back if you buy right and also it helps others who need parts for similar cars. I know it sad to take a car apart after you have loved it, but think of how many other cars you are saving from the scrap yard! Then put any money you make towards your next Ford and repeat the process!

Depends on where you live though...I used to enjoy stripping cars for parts but sadly no longer have any storage and only have a communal car park space.

I have managed to lose a lot on sub £1k cars (endless repairs) but also bought £3k cars and lost nothing so I agree with buying right, regardless of price.

I seriously doubt you'll make any money on a £450 PFL Mk6 but you shouldn't lose much unless you start modding it...which is why the wiser members have suggested it's not worth doing above.  That's about the going rate, especially with short MOT and over 100k miles.  Leather seats are nice but probably not original if it's a Zetec, they were Ghia spec which came with several other options as well.  Personally I'd put it in for MOT and see what it needs this year before doing anything else...if it still needs drop links, discs & pads, front exhaust section and a new CV joint (assuming no-one fixed the leaky gaiter) then you're already looking at £100 to get through MOT.

Unfortunately, it's not going to increase its value.

Not to change the subject... but I am...

But I have just come across this Escort GTi. I had one of these in red about 10 years ago and swapped it with a mate for a scooter. This one needs minor work doing to it, but these GTi's are RARE! I should have never got rid as mine was a minter and I reckon now would probably be worth around the £4k mark in tip top condition.

These are the sort of Fords to buy nowadays if you are looking to increase value...

... just booking my train to Bolton! :offtopic:

I see some Fiestas advertised around 1000 pounds, I see nothing that better in them.

Don't forget, people can advertise at any price, it doesnt mean they sell for that.  I'd also wonder if they are at dealers!?  No-ones getting £1000 for a PFL Zetec nowadays...I couldn't even get that for mine with full MOT and lowish mileage back in 2015!  Seem to remember I got about £700 for it...and even that was a struggle!
