Oil sump gasket

Featured Replies

Hi all

Does anyone know if it's possible to change the oil sump gasket on a 89 Shapphire with pinto 205 block and CVH  head without removing the actual sump itself..... so, undo bolts drop sump a few inches take old gasket off and slip new one in place 🤔🤔

It's been a long time since I was last under my Sapphire so I cant remember if there is anything under the sump, considering that the engine is mounted longitudinally. If the exhaust runs underneath then I'd say no because even if you did lower it so that it's resting on the exhaust, you would have to be able to get the new gasket past the oil pick up pipe and have enough clearance to clean the surfaces. Have you looked to see what clearance there is?
