Hello!

Has anyone tried a gearbox swap of the standard IB5 from a Ford Fiesta 1.6 EcoNetic Diesel 2009 to a 6 speed 1.6 econetic from a Ford Focus Mk3?

From what I see and searched the bellhousing is exactly the same on both of them, and the later one can hold more torque. In the pics the first one is from the Focus and the second one is in the Fiesta. If it's possible this swap can also work on the MK6 Fiesta with the 1.6 diesel engine (HHDA, engine for ex).

I've not seen anyone perform a gearbox swap from one model to the other personally. Looking at both pictures the bolt pattern on both bellhousings are different along the top row, also along the bottom section some of bolts don't appear to be in the right position. 

Other issues you will encounter are the amount of splines on the input shaft on the gearbox, I don't know if they are different and also the positioning of the driveshafts.

I suppose anything is possible if you have the knowledge or skills though!

Thanks for the reply. I will do some more research on this.

I talked to a friend of mine that has the mk6 1.6 diesel Fiesta, onto which he put a MTX75 Gearbox. He said that the Focus MK3 Gbox could have been a direct fit for his project but he chose the MTX75 because of the power that has gone into that car. ~500bhp and loads of torque.

 

Will the 6sp box even fit into the fiesta bay?  Would definitely measure the width before you get too carried away!

Thank you Eric! That's a good post. The input shaft has the same amount of splines on those two gboxes from above. I have just checked with some guys.

Could well be possible then! I've got a MMT6 gearbox in my fiesta and it does fit so clearance should not be an issue.
