Exhaust filter at limit warning on new Focus

Featured Replies

Bought my new ST Line 125 in November 2018 and had an initial problem with this exhaust filter at limit warning. Dealer couldn't find anything wrong and advised "a good 20 minute drive on the motorway to clear it "   and  " short stop / start journeys would cause the warning to trigger "  Now, I am on a 9000 mile per year contract and never at any time during the purchase was I advised that the car was , in essence, unsuitable for short stop / start journeys and I would have to drive 20 minutes on a motorway every week or even more regularly, to clear this warning.

Warning is now displaying regularly and even came on  the next morning immediately after a 120 mile motorway journey. Car is not due its first service until November this year.

Any other owner experienced this issue ?

Theres quite a long thread about it here

Hey Billy,

I've had the same issue with my focus to the point where it's been in and out of the mechanics for over 18 months. Did you ever get your issue resolved?

Thanks

Andy

Hi I have a 1.0 focus I get this regularly the first time I took it to the dealership they sorted it out apparently I think they put it on computer and drive the car at very high speed it gets hot and burns it off so clears it. I got message again took it to dealers they wanted to charge £60 this time but I was going on motorway so I didn't get them to do it. Since I drove it on motorway it was fine I got back home on 31st December but the message is back on yesterday. It is because I only do city driving. I have been told it is still safe to drive

What's an exhaust filter, does that mean catalytic converter?

Its a Gasoline Particulate Filter (GPF). Same as a DPF but for petrols.
