My fiesta has started giving me intermittent problems with the drivers door locking mechanism.

at first it started that I couldn’t lock The drivers door from the inside. After a while it started to work properly again. It did this on and off for a few days. This morning I was unable to unlock the drivers door at all (by remote or inside handle). The passenger door unlocked perfectly.  Then this evening it all worked fine again.

is the locking mechanism faulty or could there be something else causing the problem?
