Hi all

Have a 2004 Fiesta 1.4 petrol that seems to be having some issues starting in the cold.  The battery had died as I hadn't used the car for a few weeks.   Boosted the battery and it started fine.  But on a restart I started to get EAC Failure.  Having Googled a bit, a number of posts indicated a check on the throttle body and the butterfly valve.

The valve moves if manually opened and will return to the closed position.  I noticed though when turning the engine off, it will do what looks like a self check.  However, this doesn't look to fully open the valve - I'd like to know if this is normal behaviour, or if it indicates there is an issue with the motor / housing being able to fully open the valve.

I had this for 4 years on my 1.25 2004 fiesta petrol. Tried changing leads, plugs, and still the same. Found the problem after 4 year was a poor/dirty connection to the throttle position sensor. To unplug the sensor, which is connected to the throttle body you need to pull up the red coloured bit on the to of the connector and the push the connector up from the bottom. Spray wd40 on both parts of the connector and push it back on carefully. Then press the red bit down on the top to lock it down. This fixed my eac fault and the car drives like new. 

The connector is hard to reach as it's under the inlet manifold and I used 2 screwdrivers to prize it off. Do not spray the wd40 into the throttle body.

You can spray it onto anything electrical.

I got some throttle cleaner from EuroCarParts and used this to clean the butterfly valve.  With the warmer weather, the car seems to be OK at the moment.
