Headlight Leveling Control Problem??

Featured Replies

Just noticed that the headlight leveling control is not working as it should on my 2008 1.4 TDCI Fiesta Mk6. In the (0) position the headlights are dipped in the normal position. In the first (1)  position the headlight beam comes up but as soon as I go to any other position (2), (3) or (4) it just goes back to the dipped position.Hope this makes sense? Anyone had a similar problem and know whats going on? Thanks

Just an addendum. I have just tried another switch unit but the results are exactly the same. Any ideas ??

Chris,

Do we assume that both units are doing exactly the same ?

Yes. They are both working. Just not properly. Was just thinking could it be the switch / headlight leveling control unit itself?

I've just had a quick look but because it's daylight am finding it difficult to see exactly whats going on. Will have to wait until it get dark to investigate further. In the meantime I can confirm I can hear both headlight motors working when turning the control knob

Apart from the earth on the switch/height control, there is nothing else in common.

Although a bit of a pain, you could try disconnecting each headlight in turn, then seeing if the other works correctly, as a fault on one may affect both.

I was just thinking that I may remove both headlights anyway, to see if both motors are working as they should, and to ensure the headlights are fitted into their respective fittings correctly. Its a starting point but I will wait until its dark first as I don't have the luxury of a garage

Hi try to get the lights off and check the connections in case of corrosion in the connections. Get someone else in the car to turn the levelling switch if you look inside the light you will see the H4 bulb housing moving.  Also take the big back cover of the light below H4 bulb is the motor. A little bit of WD40. due the age of the car maybe the motor is dried up.

That may not be a bad idea? Raining today so will have to wait to examine this now!
