Fiesta mk7 boot lock issue

Hi all

my 2016 fiesta ecoboost boot will not shut and lock. When I close the boot, the catch does not engage and pressing the key fob doesn’t do anything (I can hear a click though). I can easily move the latch with my fingers with a reasonable level of resistance and the mechanism feels ok. Appreciate that is not an official test routine, not sure how else to check.

 I have replaced the switch (black button press switch above number plate) with new dealership part, but to no effect. Nervous of messing with wires without guidance. Have hunted through Forum and YouTube, grateful for your thoughts and ideas.
