B.C.M. packed in , cost to replace ?

Featured Replies

Evening folks , unfortunately it appears my body control module / fuse tray in the passenger foot well has gone kerput as loads of the cars equipment is now on the blink ( not a single blown fuse to be found ).

Anyone have a rough idea of what they cost and how much Ford charge for programming ?

Trying to find a compatible second hand one at present to keep me motoring  and dealer is last resort but probably unavoidable as time is of the essence

Cheers guys.

Don't know if you tried this already, but it is possible to update the BCM firmware with Forscan.

I am wondering if it's a problem with the soldering of the pins on the 32 pin socket on back of instrument cluster (common problem but usually on earlier mk2 cars)

or

a problem with the MS Canbus connections between the instrument cluster and the fuse box/BCM.  The canbus carries a constant flow of computer data between the two and if the data is interrupted or corrupted by iffy connections it all gets confused.  (HS canbus is for engine, MS Canbus is for lights etc)

I have heard of the BCM getting water in it. I took one apart and inside is a circuit board with computer type chips in it. Have you looked inside it (it wasn't difficult, you don't have to break bits to get it apart like with some things)

I can't say it's not the BCM but it's a lot of money to pay unless you are 100% certain you have definitely identified the fault

Not yet, no.

You can with UCDS, I believe, but it's not cheap

Make sure you can see water damage on the board before you find a replacement as it could also be the connector on the board of the instrument cluster that's gone down causing communication issues.

You can fit a good second hand BCM from a Focus or a C-Max (make sure it is good though, as above) and then use forscan to reconfigure the new BCM to your original BCM (you download the "ASBUILT" data from Ford)

@DaveT70 Now I'm confused. I have updated the firmware on my BCM with Forscan 2.3 beta version. I was under the impression that to swap the BCM with a used one you need Ford Ids. Apparently,  you have to code the keys etc and it's not possible to do this with Forscan.

Can do keys with UCDS I’m sure

Keys- not sure about this. I thought key programming was in the ecu and instrument cluster and not bcm, but I am not 100 percent certain.  Also, I think forscan can do key programming on mk2 focus

Keys are PCM

Remote Locking BCM

You can re-programme remotes with Forscan

Sorry for jumping in on this thread but where do you buy blank keys from that can be programmed?

Did you get this resolved? And if so at what cost? Got the same problem.

I've bought a used bcm can my keys be coded into it? Or do I need to buy a new one?

The original post was from a year ago so you may not get a response.

We had the BCM in our S-Max replaced a few weeks ago by the local Ford dealer.  It was around £1050 and then a £150'ish for a new battery as the old one wouldn't hold a charge anymore after being completely drained by the headlights being on permanently (that's how we noticed there was a problem!).

We had to give them both keys so that they could be programmed to the new BCM.  This was a 2012 S-Max so newer models may off-load the function to a separate module.  I am sure that I have read somewhere in this forum that coding new keys depends on the type of key and that the 3 button fobs have to be done by a dealer (or someone with access to the same software that they use).

Just had the exact issue on my 2014 MK3 ST common issues where the washer pump connector/pump leaks and causes washer fluid to travel the engine bay wiring harness and straight in to the BCM.

New BCM direct from ford was £230 and then unfortunately I couldn’t program this myself due to not having dealership level access to program both key fobs to the new BCM. I believe UCDS is able to deal with programming the fobs but forscan for me could only get me so far. What’s interesting is they will send you a facelift model of the BCM. Makes sense I guess...

managed to find a Ford specialist who did this for me and also updated every module on my car using a licensed account and cost me £530 all in. Not bad really considering!

Just now, Monks600

And for reference, this is what a water damaged connector and socket on the BCM looked like. This is mine

Sounds to me like we all need to be packing all the connectors, wires and gaps around BCMs with silicone grease to prevent water ingress.

The best part for me is the engine refused to shutdown yet all the lights and electrical went off when pushing the stop button. Had to stall my car to get the car to shut down the engine. Must admit, was really confused until I plugged it in to forscan and figured out it was the BCM.

All started with my alarm going off randomly every few hours. Turns out the ignition (with no keys present or near by) was turning on by itself hence triggering the alarm.

amazing what the BCM controls, in a rubbish location though if you ask me. All this because of a failed washer pump and connector.

Looks like it’s exactly the same pins that’s have blown

These bcm problems are a Ford issue across the board.... the replacements you guys used; do they have the same exact part numbers?

How did you get on with this - I currently have the same issue.

Mk2 Focus- give the dash a whack above the instrument cluster to check it’s not the common solder issue.

Hello, Currently i am facing this problem with my Ford focus car. May i know how you have repaired the car ? Is it always only Ford dealer can replace the BCM or a normal workshop can replace and do programming ? Any idea how much it cost ?

Thanks,Siva.

Ford UK dealerships charge between £900 and £1200

You can normally buy a secondhand BCM on eBay and programme it yourself using FORScan. It does have to be the same part number.
