Zetec s 1.0 turbo

Featured Replies

Hi all, I have a 16 plate 1.25 fiesta at the moment and being a 17 year old wanting something with more power😂. Been looking at the zetec s and the st-2. Think the st will be too much on insurance so looking like the 1.0 turbo zetec s is the best bet. How good are these? Like power and can I get more power out of it if I want to somewhere along the line of owning it? Any info would be appreciated. Cheers :)

Hi Max.

Not sure if you are talking 125 or 140 Zetec S but either is a fair jump from your 1.25 and great fun to drive, though insurers may not like it much!

There are loads of threads on this topic if you have a good search about this site, but yes, the 1.0 ecoboost is very tuneable. Mountune have options to take the 125 to 140 or 165ps, Superchips do remaps to 155ps or so, as do many others, Pumaspeed in Wakefield can take it beyond 200ps. Problems have arisen with the gearbox, even on standard 140s, as you will see on various threads.

Insurers aren't that keen on modified cars either (though some do specialise in modified cars) so you may find your best route is to build your driving experience (and no claims bonus) with a Zetec S and then, if you are looking for more in a few years time, consider modding or going for a factory ST, checking out the insurance before making a move in either direction.

Hi Max, I currently have a Zetec s 140ps I’ve owned the car for just over a year now and it’s been back at the garage more times than it’s been outside my house. I have had all the common issues with mine, power loss, gear box issues. I’ve lost all trust in the car tbh. If you’re looking at getting one check to see if it’s had all the common issues resolved if not you’re looking at a money pit.

On a good note the car is good fun to drive and returns a very generous MPG, I’ve also heard they are tuneable to 200+ bhp, not that I’d consider pushing that amount of power out of such a small engine! Save up for an ST, hope this helps - Matt.
