Spare wheel

Featured Replies

Ok i have a ford fiesta 2018 with 16 inch alloys, I have the sub woofer in the boot which I have informed if you unplug it the other speakers Wii still ( I don't need music comming from the woofer! So I going to replace it with spare wheel and true.

My question is I have brand new wheel and tyre room 50km speed limit from a past fiesta, 175/65r14.

Will this be ok for emergency for 16inch alloys wheel, the wheel stubs line the holes on wheel.

Many thanks

John Boy

I am not 100% certain. But pretty sure it will be fine. The only problem I can see is if the smaller wheel won't fit over the brake caliper. If it was me I would put it on the front of the car and have a look behind the front wheel and make sure the caliper can't touch the metal wheel. They are fine on mk 6 / 6.5 / 7 / 7.5 some of which came with 175/65/14 wheels on the car, but I don't know if mk8 ever had 14inch wheels on any model eg. low spec trim.

My understanding (also just checked in 2019 Brochure) is that all fiestas (without B&O) come with 14 inch spare as an option. It is only the ST3 had a  15 inch spare (ST2 Has B&O Sub) as it standard 14 wouldn't fit over front Brakes. I still don't understand why cars (like mine) with a Sun/Moonroof don't have the option.

My Brother is changing his car very shortly. He has a 2006 (Mk6) 1.6 Ghia Auto Fiesta. The MOT is due and would need quite a bit of money to get it through. He will probably trade it in, but if he scraps it, Would the spare wheel (and Jack etc) fit onto my Mk 8?

Mk8 Fiestas have a higher profile tyre than a mk7.5 or earlier for the same size alloy so even if it clears the brake caliper, it will not be a suitable replacement.

probably be suitable if you stick to the 50mph limit for a spare that differs in size from the others on the car. Ideally a spacesave spare should be same diameter of tyre to the other wheels but they are not always. My wife has mazda2 which has one of those skinny spacesavers and the diameter is also smaller than the wheels on the car. I realised this when we got a puncture and I tried to put the large wheel in the boot where the spare came from, but diameter too big.

I have a 2006 fiesta brochure, (I considered buying a diesel fiesta back then), It states temp spare is 175/65 14 which is standard on base model (Style) and Ghia has 195/45 16 Alloy. Is that the same as you get for a Mk8 spare? Has the bolt PCD and centre hole changed through the years?

My previous car had a full sized spare wheel, 205/45 16, the exact same size of the other 4, but fitted to a steel wheel. I still never understood why there was a 80kph/50mph sticker on it.

My Mk 8 (17" wheels) has a 175/65/R14 spacesaver. This is shown in the price list as an option on cars with 16 and 17" wheels, a 15" mini spare is shown for cars with 18s as standard, though the price list shows this as also having a 175/65/14 tyre which can't be right.

No spare wheel option on cars with pan roof or B&O.
