Can I wire tow bar electrics straight into backlight

Featured Replies

Hello just looking for some advice I have a 2008 Ford Fusion 1.4 TDCI I have fitted my towbar just wondering can I wire my towbar straight into my back light wires

I did this on my mk3 focus, as the wiring kits were very expensive. I had read that there was a possibility that it might run the battery down, but it hasn't on mine. I do however, get a brake light fault on the dash, but I can live with that for the small amount of time I use the trailer. I have rear parking sensors, which detect the tow bar, so I was lucky I bought a detachable one.

My dad back in the 1970's always wired the towbar electrics to the back lights but always had an inline fuse fitted to every wire, I did the same in 1994 and never had a problem.
