The only savings we have are tied up in Premium Bonds so not affected by interest rates, our mortgage however could be........if we hadn't fixed it for 5 years in November 🙄

    Unfortunately they are, when the interest rate drops, the amount paid out in prizes drops also, in effect reducing your chance of winning. I think in the last change the chances of each bond winning reduced from 1 in 24,500 to 1 in 26,000, for example. 😕

    I see the latest cut in the Premium Bond prize rate (which was due to fall from 1.4% to 1.3% from 1 May), has been cancelled to help savers in the Covid-19 crisis!😀

    Not sure how many of you watched the Martin Lewis show on Thursday...  He did a section on savings.  Most savings accounts have now been pulled from the market, the average interest on those left is only 0.4%! 😮 

    However, Marcus (Owned by Goldman Sachs) are still doing an easy access online account, with the option to dump as much as you like (not a drip feed, £200 a month limit), for 1.2% currently.  It is variable so could change but unlikely as they announced this rate during lockdown.
