Water in spark plug wells

Featured Replies

I'm not hugely into servicing

Norm leave it to garage

Had problems with plugs or so I thought

Moisture on the h.t leads

Symptoms replicate worn spark pluggs

Ordered T peice to have a go at replacing the plugs or plug

Shocked to find on removing h.t lead well was full.of water

So leaving it  maybee take car to local garage

There's very good not ripp of merchant's

Probably cooling wiper bottle ect

Anyone had anything similar

The 1.6 petrol of that vintage had an issue regarding not having a "cover" for the engine and this coupled with leaky washer jets can allow water to pool where the spark plugs sit.  Volvo (amongst others) also used this engine and there's apparently a Volvo engine cover that fits that engine and ensures any water leaking from the jets runs harmlessly away.

The forum search facility is a bit crap but I'm sure there's a thread on here someone with more details on this issue, and the fix.

Go to Ford and buy the updated washer jets problem will be solved 👍

Buy an engine cover which doesn't require any fitting and the problem is also sorted, for rather less effort that replacing the washer jets.

put silicon sealant round the washer jets....

Drat, if I'd have seen this sooner then I would have recommended this and that I still have mine kicking about to put up on here! 😕

But to validate it, it does work and it works well!

That's what we're here for! None of us like knowing we get ripped off, but pretty much all of us are happy to stop others from having the same experiences if it can save time, effort and most of all money... Cars ain't cheap!

P.s. If you ever get a bit bored, a silver Posca or other paint pen brings those letters right out 😁

Would this work for a Fiesta 2003 (MK6?), or anyone know of a similar cover that would fit, help very much appreciated to keep my other 'sound' car on the road.

Thanks
