It's getting Louder!

Featured Replies

Hi guys. Sorry to post on my first day joining this forum.

My wifes car broke and in a rush I grabs the first thing I could afford.

A Ford Fiesta 1.25 Duratec. 2006

Bodys perfect. Passed MOT without any advisories for the past 5 years.

Took it for a test drive. Didn't get over 30, but again everything was good.

Then driving it home, over 30 it gets louder. 70 is to loud. To me it sounds like the engine gets louder? But I don't know.

I am used to a 2lt, so coming down to a 1.2, I did wonder if small engines are this loud? But I need to make sure my wife is safe.

Before I waste money getting it diagnosed, I wanted to ask the experts on here.  My google searching is currently only pointing me at the wheel bearings. However I thought fault bearing would only make noises when turning the wheel?

I car feels so empty that what ever the sound is, it is amplified stopping me being able to point out what direction it coming from.

Has any body had any experience with this car, or loud noises that increase with speed?.

No noise at idle, sometimes a small click from the drivers side when turning.

Thank you all in advance for reading this.

I had a rear wheel bearing get noisy. Car sounded like a bus engine humming when speeding up. If you Jack the wheels up and try wobbling them. A bad bearing if really worn will allow the wheel to wobble. Also try free spinning the wheel. You will feel it grating and making a noise as you spin it fast. It will feel different compared to the other wheels.

If it's the rear wheel bearing get a garage to change it. I tried changing mine and could not get it out, it got stuck half way and I could not drive the car. It needs a 2 ton press to push it off the drum.

Still driving my fiesta 1.25 2004 and it is a great car.

As above but take it to an independent garage if you're at all worried and get them to look the car over and drive it, you can never rely on an MOT pass, it doesn't always mean that everything is okay, most examiners are very much on the ball, but there are others can be a bit slack.
