Service and mot

Featured Replies

Sorry if this is a stupid question, just wondering how much an mot and full service would cost approximately for a 1.6 tdci fiesta 2009

Glasgow area

Maximum MOT price is £55.

Full service (oil/air/fuel/pollen filters) is likely to be around £200 at an independent garage or more at a Ford dealer.

Look around for deals & offers in your area and you might be able to get both together for around £175.

Thanks I went on a comparison site and got a quote of £154 I wasnt sure if that was good or bad so thought I'd ask about, seems £150/200 is most common in and around my area,

Just about every MOT garage in my area only charges £35 [Mansfield-Nottinghamshire]

Cheapest mot not always best. Eg a cheap mot place might charge £10 to adjust headlamp beam slightly whereas others will do it free as it takes 30 seconds once bonnet is up and screwdriver in hand

Do you have MOT and Service at the same time,i know it works out that bit cheaper but can or would they cut corners.

Also to bring them both inline which one would you leave or have done earlier,my MOT is up in October but service is due in July so would you leave the service and bring them inline.

Guys a quick question, I was going to get my car serviced this week but as there just changing filters and fluids would I be aswel doing it myself and saving £150 or getting a mate to do it for a small price

It's not so much cutting corners, but they can 'skip' a lot of the service items as they'll have been checked on the MOT anyway.

It's not just filters, they also check various other components, lights, wipers, tyres, exhaust, steering & suspension etc.

However, MOT checks all of those things anyway...so you could just change the filters yourself and see if anything else is picked up during MOT...

I'm never complaining about servicing costs at Ford again. My ST is on the £19/month plan for 3 years covering all MOTs, two minor services and one major service. We've just been looking at getting our Mercedes GLC serviced, and the Mercedes plan would cost double that not including MOTs! Me thinks we'll be using an independent then...

After having worked at dealers for years I'd never have someone I know take their car there past the first few. They do bare minimum and charge the earth.always find a small independent after the initial service plan. After that things start getting expensive.  Moment it's out of warranty I'd also find a trust worthy tech who does stuff on the side. Always people willing to earn some cash on the side.

Mate i could not word it better,3 things i have heard and seen and 1 is i left my dash cam on and amazed at the time and messing about they do and as you said do the minimum 2..i know a person who did work at our local garage and said go to a good independent one as they have to go by the book so no personal touch. 3....i still know one who works there who is looking for another job as cameras all over now even as you walk out of the toilets, clocks the time you are away from the job.

As you said yes for warranty up to when its not there then else where.........My camera shocked be the most what i heard and seen,Genuine aint the same these days.

The days have gone..take it to a genuine garage i know its done right which i was the same up to about 3 years ago.

The cameras is utterly ridiculous and a few people I know who worked dealers left for same reason. It's really bad what's happening in them currently they pay for efficiency. So short cuts are taken

Sorry to throw in another question.....CASUK.......... my service is due in July and MOT in October would you leave the service a few moths till October  and have both or even September as you can have MOT done a month earlier so 13 months MOT and service done.

Im not sure what you mean, my mot is up in april so wanting everything buttoned up before then, im planning on doing service and mot around the same time, I'm not wanting to mess around it's my first car and every noise is a worry, so for piece of mind I want it 100% or as close to as I can get, as soon as i can

See when you have MOT and service done at the same time it works out cheaper and also 2 jobs done at the same time so you only leave your car at the garage once.

My service is due in July so will take car and leave it but 3 months on in October its MOT time, would people leave the service for say 15 months to fall into the same time as MOT.
