Hello all!

Looking at a brand new Fiesta Titanium for the Mrs.

Got quoted £332.50 for the "Diamond brite" extra, would anyone advise if this was worth it? 

No, I had it done for free. I've never had it done before and would never pay for it.

It's like dealer gap, it costs them about £30 yet they charge 10x for it.

I had the similar Autoglym Lifeshine paint/upholstery treatment on a previous car a few years back.

 Like Alex, it was "thrown in" with the deal, and I think it was literally thrown in and thrown on. I noticed no difference in beading or chip resistance on the paint. Certainly would have been very unhappy if I'd paid for it (was unhappy enough anyway, even after having it back to the dealer the interior still smelled like the school chemistry lab for weeks as they'd overdone the upholstery treatment). 

As has been said on other threads, I think you're better off going to a specialist detailer for that type of thing.

Don't bother.   It's easy to do yourself and, if done properly, it's brilliant.

I said no to it on the last new car I bought.

When SWMBO got her Honda Civic last year they threw it in for free.  Haven't noticed any difference so far 🙂

I personally wouldn't buy it, nor the GAP (from the dealer) or alloy insurance etc etc.

Just be aware locking wheel nuts now seem to be an option - I would try and get them included the price!

I've never heard of them not coming as standard.

Are you looking in the accessories section? If so they've always been listed there.

Took the £300-odd off the car, will do it myself like I always have done :D

GAP cover I will take out through my personal insurance depending on price, Ford want to charge £520 for 4 years cover, £330 for 3 years cover. 

Anyway, hopefully should get an answer soon.

Got GAP Insurance thrown in too when I bought my current car.   Depends how badly they want to sell the car.

My dealers GAP offer for 3 years for something like £350.

went with DirectGap - £110 for 4 years. Says it all I think! 

I could be wrong but I always tend to think if you get something thrown in, you’re paying for it elsewhere. I’ve always liked to just bring the price of the car down. If they say their gap cover is £400, they’ll try and make you think that’s the discount they’ve already given you where in reality it’s costing them nothing near to that but if the price is already good, getting a few extras thrown in is always a good thing! 

Nope, waste of money, most of these coatings are... Probably better to take the car to a detailer / refinisher for a better cheaper job if you feel you need a protective coating.

All the dealership extras can be bought cheaper with a little looking and research.

When they say "thrown in", it isn't free, they don't give things away. You will be charged elsewhere for it in the pricing structure. The customer is charged a little more for this or that until the "thrown in" price is covered.

My preferred dealer couldn't match the cheapest quote I'd got, I went with them anyway as the difference wasn't that much.

On collection day, they told me they'd applied the coating as they'd felt bad for not being able to match the price. So I never asked for it, or had it as a sweetener, I realise it's paid out of the price, but for me at least, it was basically free 🙂

I had a similar thing with my dealer. I got a quote which I was happy with elsewhere and asked my dealer to match it which they did. Through bad practice though, they automatically apply the protective coating so you have to specifically ask for it to be taken off and the offer I had didn’t include any dealer extras like the coating so effectively, I sort of had the coating as a freebie. I did get the impression the job was rushed though and not as precise as a professional detailer would be

Not always strictly true, in my experience. 

Often the dealer will discount the price of the car to allow them to include the extra at no additional cost.  As we all know, the extras are where the dealership / salesman / saleswoman makes the most money in terms of commission and bonuses. 

As long as you keep your wits about you it's quite possible to get extras thrown in and not pay the penalty. It's all down to how much they have left in their discount pool. 

Negotiate the price, then negotiate any extras 😉

So, update. Finance was approved, told the dealer to not put on the diamond package, ended up throwing it in for free 😄

Collecting next Saturday. 

Very similar to this, just the Titanium spec. 

Picked her up today.

Done about 65miles already, averaging 55MPG. Loving it

Interesting, the '20 Titanium now comes with rear electric windows but no climate control.
