More Blackish Smoke

Featured Replies

Hi can anyone advise why my car has started to blow out more black smoke under acceleration.its only just started and since ive filled the tank with fresh diesel and an expensive additive/dpf cleaner.

Could it be additive working so blowing out the crap ? 1.5 TDCI Duratorq.

Thanks

Additive plus extra smoke seems connected to me.

It is, as you say, more than likely the additive/cleaner getting rid of all of the soot/crap out of the DPF.  However if it is still doing it after a few tankfuls of clean diesel (no additive) it might be something else. I'd first check how dirty your air filter is (and possibly change it), then possibly change the fuel filter, to see if that helps. I'd also check all boost pipes to make sure they're secure.

Thanks Jim ,Air filter brand new, fuel filter last July , boost pipes look nice and secure no damage,im hoping its like you said the cleaning of parts etc due to additive i put in , so i run this tank then fill with no additives and then see....

Simple answer yes another tank of fuel SHOULD solve it and if it doesn't may be some other problem somewhere. however i will add that additives in your fuel work as a diesel purge (although not as well) and will push out any soot and grime from around the engine clearing it out. personally id change all of the filters after a diesel purge as the amount of grime this can remove can block these filters pretty quickly. Also when i did my first diesel purge my dpf must have got seriously blocked by all the crap being pushed through as it failed not long after this and went into limp mode (could have been coincidence). Now i always remove my dpf and clean it out before a purge. seems like hard work but have never had a problem since and you will definitely feel the benefit of running on a clean system.
