Idling and misfiring fiesta 1999 1.25 16v

Featured Replies

Hi all

I’m in need Of some help/advice please!!

I have a T-plate 1999 mk4 ford fiesta Zetec-S 1.25 16v

At the moment my car is not idling very well and it also has a misfiring problem????

I have changed all the spark plugs and I have also put a new set of ignition leads(HT leads)on too!!

Although this unfortunately has not made any change to the performance of my vehicle with regards to the idling situation nor has it had any effect to the misfiring situation either????

I have recently been advised that I should maybe also try changing the ignition coil pack....which I have purchased!!

But unfortunately this is where I’m now stuck as I can’t seem to find any information or advice on the internet about how to change the coil pack on the mk4 fiesta model-which was manufactured between 1995-2002....I can only find information/videos on Mk5/6/7 models-which are 2002-present

Can anyone shed some light on this please

Many Thanks In Advance
Kaz

Remove old one, refit new one. 4 bolts. Simples

Also. It could be an air leak out of a breather pipe under the inlet manifold. I'll come fit the coil if you ain't to far away from me

Trace the ignition leads back to the coil pack on the right of the engine. Make sure you number the leads 1 to 4 and connect them to the new coil pack in the same order. To try it out you dont need to screw it in, you can rest it on top. The connector that goes to the coil pack has a spring wire locking it in place. You just need to squeeze the wire towards the middle of the connector to release the connector and pull it off. The coil pack it held in place by 4 screws.

If the car runs ok sometimes and misfires intermittently it might be a dirty connector  on the throttle position sensor. The connector to that is a few inches lower down from the coil pack. That connector might have a coloured tab on top. Pull the tap up to release the latch and pull the connector off. Spray some wd 40 into the connector and plug it back in.
