Mk8 Fiesta Owners Question Regarding Dashcams

Featured Replies

Do any Mk 8 fiesta owners with the large black box underneath the rearview mirror find it tends to block a chunk of drivers side view if dashcam is near the mirror.

Looking to see where Mk8 drivers have positioned their dashcam to overcome the partially obstructed view.
I had considered using the suction mount at the bottom on the mirror box to keep the dashcam centered but afraid the weight might pull the box off windscreen or police might have a word cause camera is in my view.
Dashcam is Nextbase 422gw with rear add on clipped on the side.

Hi, yes, I absolutely find the box on the windscreen obscures a good chunk of nearside view.  My camera is the wedge type and is mounted (stuck) as low as I could 'coverty' place it on the raised dotted section.  My car spends all its time parked at the roadside so I needed it to be as hidden as possible.

I just console myself that any dashcam, even partially obscured, is better than no dashcam at all.

I've stuck mine to the windscreen just to the bottom left corner of the black box, I haven't found any of the view obscured.

As long as it's not obstructing the area covered by the drivers windscreen wiper then you're ok.
Even inside that area as long as it's high up and sensibly positioned then it's unlikely to attract Police attention.

Is your power cable running down from roof lining to the cam? I assume you stuck the cable to the box with something to keep it tidy otherwise there might cable hanging loose.

No I ran the cable up towards the mirror then tucked it under the roof lining, down the passenger door pillar (under the covering) then under the bottom of the glove box and up the side of the footwell to the socket. The only visible bit of cable is from the side of the footwell to the socket.

Hi guys,

Just got our MK8, I need to get a front and rear dashcam, will tuck the wires into the lining, any recommendations please?

Need quite a decent one to record all driving, will be using a 64GB/128GB card to record.

Thanks for that Blatto.

I use the Aukey dashcam below (but I only have the front camera) :

Have a look at Techmoan's YouTube channel for some really good reviews on Dashcams.

I chose the Aukey as discrete placement was important for me, it helps me maintain the integrity of my windows 😉

Nextbase 422 GW plus the clip on rearview cam (Saves hassle of running a wire to the rear windscreen)  not bad so far, Ive only had it less than a week , I got the Nextbase 128gb card for it, bit on the dear side but read some folk having problem with NON NB cards. Alexa part of i8t she is a different beast but hey ho' she is not necessary. I've not got used to all the settings yet and final position of the cam.

Not got a cpl filter on yet

2 links below if they work, short clips front & rear cam.

Definitely worth using an endurance type Micro SD designed for continuous recording, bit more pricey but a litle extra piece of mind.

Oh that is interesting! What did that set you back if you don't mind me asking?

Mine was 60 quid for just the front camera.  15 for the Micro SD (but could well be cheaper now).

£129 for front cam, £20 for hardwire kit £49 for rearview cam.

I decided to bite the bullet and go for the 128gb nextbase sd card.
