Ford fiesta 2003 automatic keeps revving up when engine is started and it does not stop

Featured Replies

Hi Everyone!
I have a 2003 semi automatic ford fiesta, and when I start the engine, it revs up to 2000-3000 straight away, and unfortunately it never goes back down! I haven't used my car for a week now due to not being able to get an auto electrician out with this virus at the moment! I cant drive the car, as soon as I put it into drive or reverse, my car shoots off, and I dont even need to put my foot on the gas pedal ! It is extremely dangerous! Any ideas as what the problem could possibly be? Thank you all

Check the vacuum pipes around the inlet manifold. The PCV hose between the engine block and the inlet manifold is the usual suspect for splitting.

Could be the throttle body is on its way out. Quite common once they get to an age.

Had an Escort 1800 Ghia which exhibited this problem. Turned out to be a faulty idle speed control valve. Don't know if they have one on your car but you never know!!
