Spare wheel fitment Tourneo/Kuga/Smax

Featured Replies

I have a 2014 tourneo connect that comes only with the tyre compressor & sealant, pretty useless if you get anything more than a nail in your tyre. I have seen various threads on here about retro-fits for fitting a spare wheel under the floor, usually involving the ford fitting kit & much expense. I found a much simpler and cheaper solution:

Buy a ford space saver spare (with correct 5 x 108pcd) along with ford Jack & wheel brace (ebay about £30)

Get an M8 x 100mm screw & locknut plus 2 large washers, install into the slotted hole in the well under the vehicle with thread downwards. No need to jack up vehicle, plenty of room underneath

Get a 100mm laser cut steel disc 6mm thick & drill an 8mm hole in the centre. Paint the steel disc to stop it rusting. Also get a 60mm diameter 7 lobe M8 female threaded knob (£4 & £3 off ebay)

Get an old emulsion tub polythene lid and cut it into a 100mm disc with a hole in the centre.

Put the spare wheel. inside facing down, centrally over the m8 threaded screw (I used a jack to hold it up)

Put the polythene disc, steel disc and lobed knob onto the threaded screw & tighten up hand tight to hold the spare up

Done! Admittedly you will get your trousers dirty when you want to release the  spare BUT you will get home
