1.4 Fiesta

Featured Replies

Hi,

I have a 1.4 MK6 fiesta which I've had for a few months. For some reason when taking long trips or when pushing the car a little on the motorway, it seems to get stuck in 5th gear which also causes the clutch to drop. The car has to be turned off, put into gear which then allows it to drive but not able to change gear until its cooled down. After a few days the clutch goes back to it's normal position. I've been advised that it may be the clutch master cylinder however just wanted to get some of your guys opinions. Has this occurred for anyone else and if so what resolved the issue?

Thank you

Sounds like a typical fault with either the master or slave cylinder. Have a look around and see if you can see any fluid leaking from around the bell housing or where the master cylinder is located.

My sisters mk6 has a similar problem. Clutch hydraulics lose pressure. Definitely no sign of fluid loss. So I concluded must be master cylinder (they are plastic and can’t last forever). I replaced it. Car was then fine for couple of months and now occasionally does it again. Some violent quick pumping of the clutch pedal seems to solve it for a while. I have bled it again since replacing mAster cylinder but still does it. I was wondering if some dirt in the master cylinder interfering with seal but you can’t dismantle them. They are glued together it seems

I've also tried having the clutch bled which did help for a while but when I pushed the car a little caused the issue again. I think the mechanic did mention their was a leak and that's why he thought it was the master cylinder.
